With the inception of MIK, with a mission to "promote the rich musical heritage of Croatian Littoral with the "unusual" Istrian scale, composers of our region were given an opportunity (for the first time) to market their songs to the public. Writing songs that remain in the desk drawers is very painful, and so the ability to have them heard by wide audience became a great incentive to produce more of them and of better quality. These creations become subject to critique, and the public got an opportunity to judge and accept songs as they fitted its taste and preferences. The songs, depending on their quality, got the attention of the critics and the press, and were recorded (first a few, then the whole MIK), so that music lovers could listen to them at home. Analysis of these and other elements determined directions in which MIK needed to proceed. In this, MIK has fulfilled its purpose. |
